A woman from the Massachusetts delegation reached over. Some women from the Georgia delegation looked at him and giggled approvingly, as if to say, that guy. Soon, other, Caucasian delegates began to notice Kumar. When the crowd began to chant “Build that wall!” Kumar could be heard clearly above the din. ![]() I’ve worked for all presidents since Ronald Reagan and what’s happened in the last 8 years, I can’t believe it.” “He’s the only one who can bring security to our country,” Kumar said of Trump. Speaker squinted and nodded with just the slightest flicker of forbearance. When Trump spoke about national security, Kumar got particularly excited, turning to the Speaker and saying, “It’s just as you said, Mr. “I’m just a considerate person, that’s all! I never think about myself, I never think about myself!” “I’m fine, but he’s blocking Newt Gingrich!” he explained. “I’m sorry, I’m just very passionate about it!” Then he would make sure that no one was obstructing the Speaker’s view-though the Speaker didn’t seem to care all that much-telling his fellow delegates to sit down and get off their chairs. “I don’t want to hit your face,” he said apologetically. Then he would turn to me and shrug, coy and embarrassed by his enthusiasm. ![]()
